Red Rover Interactive, developer of the highly anticipated megatrain survival shooter Enginefall, has announced significant layoffs just weeks after a successful public demo.
- Enginefall developer Red Rover Interactive has announced layoffs across its Newcastle and Oslo studios despite securing $20 million in funding.
- The post-apocalyptic megatrain survival shooter recently hit over 300,000 Steam wishlists after a successful public gameplay demo.
- While these roles were removed to establish financial sustainability, the game is currently still on track for a future PC release.
Despite Enginefall raising $20 million in funding over the past three years, including a $15 million investment from Krafton, developer Red Rover Interactive had its work cut out just a week after the game’s appearance at Steam Next Fest, even with the game sitting on more than 300,000 wishlists.
Despite massive player interest, Red Rover Interactive has confirmed a wave of layoffs to secure a “sustainable foothold,” as development progresses, according to Game Developer.
What is the Current State of Enginefall Development?
Enginefall is currently in the pre-launch phase following a massive public playtest during Steam Next Fest in June 2026.
The core gameplay, featuring a player-driven post-apocalyptic craft survival shooter set atop a moving megatrain, is fully playable, with the team gearing up for a PC release.
During the recent Steam Next Fest, players experienced chaotic train-cross PvP battles and extensive crafting mechanics. The building showcases the journey from cramped slums to fortified carriages.
Players search for resources, build a compact makeshift base, and interact with hostile environments. Recent testing successfully demonstrated the feasibility of the ambitious moving train concept.
How Will Red Rover’s Restructuring Impact Its Roadmap?
Red Rover Interactive stated that the layoff was designed to put the studio on a sustainable footing, one that could adjust the live development schedule but currently keep the game on track for release on PC.
The company is undergoing a restructuring process that will see an undisclosed number of roles eliminated.
Despite the current momentum, maintaining a large independent studio requires significant capital. The goal is to stabilize the financial foundation for the next major production phase.
What Can PC Players Expect Next?
PC players can expect continued development towards Early Access or a full release on Steam, although updates may temporarily slow down during the studio’s transition phase.
Moving forward, the community will await official updates regarding the exact release schedule and estimated costs.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
