Highguard Originally Wanted to Shadowdrop Before Being Brought by Geoff Keighley to TGA

Reporting from XboxEra, during a behind-the-scenes presentation with content creators and media, the vice president of Wildlight Entertainment’s Product and Publications division, Jason Torfin, and Lead Designer Mohammed Alavi spoke and answered several questions.

One of the interesting questions is regarding the promotion of the Highguard game, where this has not been seen at all since the announcement at TGA 2025. And it turns out that this was Highguard’s initial plan.

Initially, this game wanted to follow the release method like Apex Legends, namely Shadow Drop, because the game was developed by former developer Respawn Entertainment.

Jason Torfin said that because they are independent and understand how to run a business and build a team, they have the advantage to do Shadow Drop. And this studio is also not tied to shareholders or other corporate matters.

Change of Plans Because Geoff Keighley Loves the Game

However, these plans changed because in 2025, Geoff Keighley, who is the host and creator of The Game Awards, came and tried the game. He really likes the Highguard game and wants to announce it because it is at TGA.

And then they got the chance and decided to make a trailer for Shadow drop which later became the announcement trailer at The Game Awards 2025.

This is also indirect confirmation that the Highguard game did not pay for a trailer spot at The Game Awards and this game was there for one reason, namely Geoff Keighley liked it.
