Araya Project
Spider House and its main purpose was not created by the Nursefathers, but by the top officials of Five Fingers.
Rien, Oracle Proxy from Index is strongly suspected to be the only Nursefather who is aware of the true purpose of their task, where the other four Nursefathers only know to raise Yoshihide as a deadly swordsman.
Even so, Fingers seemed to lack confidence in Nursefather’s ability to turn Yoshihide into Muga, so The Thumb created research called “Project Araya” as their plan B.
The project aims to be a biotechnological “mass production” of children, with Araya accidentally meeting Yoshihide being the only surviving “product” of the research. This project was allegedly commissioned by Capo dei Capi and led by the “Central” Thumb branch, which had interacted with Valencina in the hope of convincing him to reinstate his position as Sottacapo.
While at the facility, Araya was taught to think of Yoshihide as her mother. So when they first met, Araya was very confident that Yoshihide would take her to him Spider House.

Yoshihide’s absence made each Nursefather take alternative steps, namely recruiting Apprentices as foster children and their “killing machines”.
Like Valencina in Lucio who was specially trained like a “textbook” to relearn his Parlemitan techniques, Sora as a Proxy was trained by Rien, Kira was trained by Matthias, Albina was trained by Callisto, and Ren was trained by Dihui Star to fight and act as his spokesperson.
Story Development in Canto IX
On Canto IX: The Unbrokenduring operation Spider Pyre, two members Spider House Rien and Kira are confirmed dead. Rien suddenly commits suicide, while Kira is taken over by LCE and dies afterwards.
