Helldivers 2 PC Installation Size Now Down to 23GB

Helldivers 2 file size reduced by 85%. The latest Steam patch allows players to download the slim 23GB version only.

Helldivers 2’s PC launch, while pulling in some numbers, didn’t bring much customer satisfaction. It was riddled with performance and technical issues that even caused the developer to delay new content to fix the PC version first (ahem, certain Monster games). While patches are released regularly to address this, this also makes the game bulky. Luckily, that has been resolved now.

Helldivers 2 PC File Size Down to 23GB

After growing frustration, Arrowhead Game Studios was finally able to fix Helldivers 2’s ballooning file size on PC. This version was launched with a capacity of 70GB, which is much larger than the PS5 and Xbox Series

The size then gets bigger and reaches 154GB which is more than enough for many players to delete the game from their PC to let in newer games like BF6 or BO7. However, with this latest update (which also includes Python Commandos Warbond), they can reinstall the game as it now has a slimmer 23GB version. To clarify, this is not the default version.

To achieve it:

• Open your Steam Library
• Right click Helldivers 2 and select properties
• Go to the Beta tab
• Select the “prod_slim” option from the Beta Participation dropdown

While there is no difference between the two (and no data loss) if you still prefer to use the default version for now, instead of “prod_slim”, you can choose “prod_legacy.” from options.

Once everything is tested and the developer is absolutely sure nothing is broken, the slim version will eventually replace the default version.
