Developer Fatshark has finally pushed the Rejects out of the Hive’s protective shell and into the irradiated wastes of Atoma Prime with the new Warhammer 40:000: Darktide free update, Beyond the Hive, which introduces a new game mode, Expeditions.
For three years in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, we fought floor after floor, clearing the same gloomy corridors of Hive City.
But the Beyond the Hive update, which launched on March 17, 2026, changed the fundamental DNA of the first-person co-op action game.
The heart of the expansion is Expeditions, a non-linear extraction style mode that swaps written paths for tactical greed. You’ll navigate a vast, open grid on a planet’s surface, hunting Tech-Remnants while hours of radiation poisoning eat away at your health bar.

Expedition: Evolution of Darktide into Extraction?
The new Expedition mode replaces linear paths with an open grid. You don’t just make your way to the extraction point, but hunt for Tech Remnants while battling a persistent radiation poisoning timer.
Straying too far from Deadside Sanctuaries is a death sentence. This safe zone is the only place to catch your breath, but lingering will attract hordes of people. This is a tense game between the chicken and its environment.
Whether you’re a veteran Zealot looking for a new game ending or a newcomer, the stakes have never been higher. If you don’t make it to the Valkyrie before the storm hits, you’ll just end up with a radioactive grave.
Horror and New Communication
